The Goi Peace Foundation is now taking entries for its 2021 Essay Contest from young people all across the world.

About Goi Peace Foundation International Essay Contest 2021

The goal of this yearly essay contest is to tap into the enthusiasm, creativity, and initiative of the world’s youth in order to promote a culture of peace and sustainable development.

It also aspires to motivate society to learn from young people and consider how each of us may make a difference in the world.

This program is part of UNESCO’s Education for Sustainable Development: Towards SDG Achievement (ESD for 2030) initiative.

Goi Peace Foundation International Essay Contest Theme

“What is Life?”

What does life mean to you? Have you had an experience that made you think about the meaning of life? What kinds of things can you do to cherish and invigorate your own life and all life on earth?

Goi Peace Foundation International Essay Contest Eligibility

  • Anyone under the age of 25 (as of June 15, 2021) may submit an essay in one of the following age categories:
    • Children (ages up to 14)
    • Youth (ages 15 – 25)
  • In English or French, essays must be 700 words or less, and in Japanese, they must be 1600 characters or less. Your name and essay title must be typed at the top of the first page of your essay.
  • There are no specific formatting guidelines (font style, size, line space, etc.). Essays, on the other hand, must be submitted in MS Word (DOC/DOCX) or PDF format.
  • By creating a ‘account for school/organization entrant’ on the online registration page, teachers and youth leaders can submit a collection of essays from their class or group.
  • Original and previously unpublished essays are required. Entries that are plagiarized will be disqualified.
  • Essays must be written by a single individual. Essays written in collaboration with others will not be accepted.
  • The organizer will be given copyright to the essays submitted.

Goi Peace Foundation International Essay Contest Prizes

In the Children’s and Youth’s categories, the following awards will be presented:

  • 1st Prize: For one entrant, a certificate, a prize of 100,000 Yen (about US$900 as of March 2021), and a gift.
  • 2nd Prize: Certificate, 50,000 Yen (about US$450 as of March 2021) in prize money, and a gift for three contestants.
  • 3rd Prize: 5 entrants will receive a certificate and a gift.
  • Honorable Mention: A certificate and a gift for 25 entrants.


  • The winners of the first through third prizes will be invited to an online Winners Gathering.
  • If applicable, additional awards (Best School Award, School Incentive Award) will be granted.
  • On October 31, 2021 (Japan time), all award winners will be announced on this website. The winners will get certificates and gifts in December 2021.

How to Submit Entries for Goi Peace Foundation International Essay Contest:

Entries must be submitted via the internet. To submit your essay through the internet, go to the online registration page and complete the necessary steps. Entries sent by mail or e-mail will not be accepted.
